---- — DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A federal grand juror has been charged with leaking secret information about the investigation of a man later convicted in a $1 million Ponzi scheme.
Terry Jones is charged with criminal contempt for disclosing details of testimony and the existence of a sealed indictment and arrest warrant for John Holtsinger of Ottumwa last year.
The complaint says Jones ran into a witness at Costco in West Des Moines, who asked him what the investigation was about. Jones allegedly explained, describing who had testified for and against Holtsinger and that the indictment was issued.
The complaint says the witness was loyal to Holtsinger, who soon learned the information.
Holtsinger was sentenced to 87 months in prison in January for fraud and tax evasion.
Jones' initial appearance is Friday in Des Moines.
