---- — DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The city of Des Moines has closed the lake and beach at Gray's Lake Park to some activities because bacteria levels are abnormally high.
Des Moines Parks and Recreation officials say park users are prohibited from using the beach, swimming, fishing, or using any boats.
The elevated levels are the result of recent flooding.
The 100-acre lake is a popular site for using sailboats, canoes, and paddleboats. It also is used by the Des Moines Rowing Club.
The lake is fed by Raccoon River back-up waters and storm water runoff.
Park officials say they'll continue to test water frequently and will announce when bacteria levels are safe again.
The park's trail remains open and exercise programs including Zumba at the Lake and Yoga in the Park will continue, weather permitting.
