IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A 24-year-old man who was shot twice during a 2012 undercover drug sting in Johnson County has pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/1dBwnOC ) Demarco Dudley pleaded guilty to the felony Thursday in Johnson County District Court.
One man died in the undercover drug buy at the Breckenridge Trailer Court near Iowa City on Aug. 16, 2012.
Authorities have said agent Daniel Stepleton went to a trailer as part of an undercover operation and was ambushed by masked men wielding weapons.
Police say Ivan Hardemon pointed a gun to Stepleton's head, but the agent grabbed his own weapon and fired. The 24-year-old Hardemon was killed and Dudley was hit twice. Investigators determined Stepleton acted in self-defense.
Dudley will be sentenced March 17.
