Lake Darling $12M renovation nears completion

BRIGHTON, Iowa (AP) — A major renovation of Lake Darling in eastern Iowa is nearing an end and state officials say reopening is planned for this summer.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the lake will begin impounding water once again when gates are closed during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Feb. 12. That will mark the end of a more than $12 million project to renovate the lake and surrounding park.

A grand opening is planned for late this summer or early fall.

During the project the dam was replaced and the lake level was raised two feet. Also built were new roads, a campground, boat ramps, the beach, a fishing bridge and park lodge. Trails also were refurbished.

Lake Darling State Park, dedicated in 1950, is three miles west of Brighton.
