Tony Blair: world wants US to regain stability

Ottumwa Courier

---- — DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair says is important to the world that the United States gets stability back in its government.

Speaking at the World Food Prize symposium in Des Moines, Blair says it's up to the U.S. citizens to decide how that happens but the international community "wants America strong and focused and hopefully not going from one crisis to another."

Blair, who has worked after leaving office as prime minister to fight poverty and hunger in Africa, says the U.S. economy is central to global stability and to the confidence that people have in what has been a very fragile recovery from recession.

Blair's comments come the day after Congress and President Barack Obama ended a 16-day partial government shutdown.
