Wapello Co. Supervisors to look at Gothic House's 28E agreement between Eldon and county
By SCOTT NILES Courier staff writer
OTTUMWA — The American Gothic House in Eldon will be the main focus of the Wapello County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.
The first item dealing with the Gothic House is a 28E agreement with the city of Eldon and the county.
According to Supervisor Steve Siegel, the agreement is simply an updated version of the old 28E agreement. It will be more specific in terms of where the control for the American Gothic House Visitors and Welcome Center will lie.
“The city of Eldon will own the visitors center, but Wapello County will operate it,” he said.
The agreement also will call for a committee to be designated to the task.
“The committee will have two [Eldon] city members, two county members and one person who is appointed by the other four members,” Siegel said.
Other items on the agenda regard letters of support for more grants for the visitors center.
“They are applying for more Vision Iowa grants and this is just showing our support for that,” he said.
In another matter, Wapello County will be looking at joining the National Association of County Officers’ prescription drug discount card program.
Siegel said this would be open to any county resident who was eligible and wishing to get drug prescription discounts.
“The discounts are somewhere in the range of 15 to 20 percent,” he said.
More information about the discount card program will be available after Tuesday’s meeting.
