OTTUMWA — Creation is unlimited and Juanita Hannah and Rose Ellen Sheeley are ready to offer a wide choice of molds, paints and a kiln to anyone who wants to learn.
The two women purchased a local longtime ceramic business, renamed it Creations Unlimited and moved it to 930 Hayne St.
“Rose Ellen and I decided to go out on a venture and do something different,” Hannah said. “It’s art as a hobby.”
“Anyone can do it. It’s not just the experienced crafters,” Sheeley said.
They have worked with students, even as young as a kindergartner, a special needs group in Albia, 4-H groups, Scouts and home-schooled art students.
“We do ceramics and even the greenware that was popular in the 1970s,” Sheeley said.
People can come in and paint, Hannah said.
“We have molds for religious items, Ottumwa High School Bulldogs, University of Iowa Hawkeye items, outdoor items and more,” Hannah said. “We do our own pouring and have nearly 9,000 molds.”
Both women hope to branch out and host events such as birthday parties and bridal showers. They already do individual classes where everyone is doing something different.
Sheeley said one person is doing homemade soap, someone else is working on jewelry and another does birdhouse arrangements that include barn boards.
“You can even make a set of dishes for someone who‘s getting married,” she added.
Hannah said their collection of molds includes Halloween items such as pumpkins and ghosts and several Christmas molds.
“If we don’t have it, we can probably get it,” Sheeley said.
In addition to instruction, the business also offers “open tables” where people can paint anytime.
