Fairfield company expanding business

FAIRFIELD — A local company based out of Fairfield has expanded even more by acquiring its seventh business.

Dexter Apache Holdings, Inc., located on West Grimes Avenue in Fairfield, purchased 100 percent of the interests of the Cox Manufacturing Company, operating as Dalton Ag Products, headquartered in Lenox.

Dalton Ag Products is a leading provider of fertilizer application equipment in Iowa, and the acquisition helps to broaden the Dexter Apache Holdings portfolio of companies while further cementing their reputation as a provider of high-quality products and services, according to a press release by Dexter Apache Holdings.

The purchase does not mean Dalton Ag Products will have a lot of change, however. The company will remain headquartered in Lenox, and current president and owner Rob Cox will continue to serve as president.

Dexter Apache Holdings is a 100 percent employee-owned company. Through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), the approximately 750 employees buy into stocks of the company, therefore making it entirely ran by the people who work for the company. It is a member of three national employee ownership associations: ESCA, the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) and ESOP.

Dalton Ag Products is the seventh business that Dexter Apache Holdings owns, with the others being Dexter Laundry, Inc., located in Fairfield; Leer, Inc., out of New Lisbon, Wis.; Apache Stainless Equipment Corporation, headquartered in Beaver Dam Wis.; Crystal Group, operating out of Hiawatha; Dexter Financial Services, Inc., located in Cedar Rapids; and Century Laundry Distributing, Inc., out of Cedar Rapids.
