OTTUMWA — One of Ottumwa’s real estate firms recently received recognition for outstanding sales production in 2013.
The locally owned office of Coldwell Banker Prestige Midwest, Realtors was ranked number 9 out of 778 affiliated Coldwell Banker offices throughout North America in the office size category of 1-10 sales associates for closed units in 2013.
“We are excited to be honored with this recognition," said broker Les Thostenson. “The credit is due to the dedication, hard work and good reputation the agents have earned in the community. We live and work in our community. Our agents serve as volunteers and provide leadership with many organizations throughout Ottumwa. Even though they are busy with their jobs, they continue to give back to the community.”
The Ottumwa office has even captured the attention of the Coldwell Banker Residential franchise system. Nelson Bennett, a vice president of Coldwell Banker in charge of 21 states in the northeast region, flew to Ottumwa from New Jersey last fall to meet the agents and staff of the office.
“Nelson wanted to pay us a personal visit and see for himself how our office can do so well in Ottumwa," said Thostenson.
So far this year, the Ottumwa MLS closings are tracking behind 2013, but Thostenson predicts the market will return to normal levels when spring temperatures arrive. “We normally consider the first weekend of March the beginning of the spring home-buying season, but the long winter weather has slowed sellers and buyers from entering the market. The Ottumwa market has mirrored the national trends during the first quarter of this year,” he said.
The arrival of some 50- and 60-degree days has already brought out sellers anxious to get their homes on the market. Thostenson said, “We should see another good year in 2014. Mortgage rates are still favorable, and there are a lot of good initiatives across Ottumwa that will lead to continued progress for years to come.”
