---- — OTTUMWA – The Acute Rehab Unit and Outpatient Rehab Unit at Ottumwa Regional Health Center is celebrating National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, Sept. 15–21, by giving back to the community that has continued to trust its health care needs to them.

Staff from both units chose to volunteer to help serve lunch at the Salvation Army on Tuesday.

“There are many individuals within our community that have a lack of resources, and this is our way of giving back to the community that supports us,” said Lynnette Winn, external admissions coordinator for the Acute Rehab Unit.

This week is designed to promote the value of rehabilitation, highlight the capabilities of people with disabilities, to salute professionals who provide service to people with disabilities and to renew our nation’s commitment to fulfill the unmet needs of people with disabilities.

“Every year we celebrate rehab awareness week at Ottumwa Regional Health Center to celebrate our patients’ successes. This is a nationwide event to create an awareness of the need for physical rehabilitation,” said Robin Honomichl, director of Rehab Services.

Ottumwa Regional Health Center provides rehab services at the acute, outpatient and home health levels of care. The Acute Rehab Unit will be celebrating its 11th anniversary this year.
