---- — OSKALOOSA — Betty Barnard of Oskaloosa was named Mahaska Health Partnership’s 2013 Hospital Auxiliary member and Volunteer Shining Star by the Iowa Hospital Association.

Barnard has been an active member of the Mahaska Health Partnership Auxiliary since 1998. She has volunteered countless hours in the gift shop, now relocated to the lower level of the new patient care wing and called Whispering Tree Gifts.

According to MHP Volunteer Coordinator Kim Langfitt, Barnard has been a wonderful asset to the MHP Auxiliary.

“Betty is a fantastic part of the auxiliary and hospital volunteers,” Langfitt said. “Her cheerful attitude, delightful charm and dedication to the hospital and community make her a role model for us all. She truly is a Shining Star at Mahaska Health Partnership.”

In addition to her volunteerism at MHP, Betty also spends her days helping others in the community. She cares for a friend in a nursing home, volunteers at the Department of Human Services and helps out at SHARE, a company that provides access to good, nutritious food at affordable prices to many communities.

According to Langfitt, the opening of Whispering Tree Gifts has been a very exciting time for MHP and its volunteers. “Betty and the rest of the volunteers have been doing an excellent job running Whispering Tree Gifts and selflessly giving their time to help out wherever they are needed. We are fortunate enough to have individuals like Betty who give their time to help make our visitors feel at home,” Langfitt said.
