Little elected to board

OTTUMWA — The Iowa Council of Foundations (ICoF), a statewide membership association of grantmaking foundations, has announced its 2013-14 board of directors and officers, including a new member from Ottumwa.

The board welcomed Brad Little, president and CEO of the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, as a new board member.

The ICoF was founded in 1998 by representatives from Iowa foundations and corporate giving programs to guide grant makers in the best practices of charitable giving. Members are a diverse mix of Iowa community foundations, private foundations, family foundations, corporate foundations and other giving programs. ICoF members represent more than $1.7 billion in assets and distribute more than $120 million in grants each year to support local nonprofits and causes.

Area winery wins medal

BATAVIA — Cedar Valley Winery, located in Batavia, was recently awarded a bronze medal at the 2013 New York International Wine Competition (NYIWC) for its estate-grown and estate-bottled Vignoles wine.

Cedar Valley Winery winemaker, Seth Miller, was pleased with the result noting “unlike many other competitions, only 30 percent of the entries received awards. We are thrilled that our Vignoles stood out from the crowd.”

The 2013 competition received close to 1,000 entries from the United States and more than 30 countries from all over the world.

Cedar Valley Winery features French and American hybrid varieties that produce high-quality wines. In 2002, a small 1.5-acre vineyard was established, which has grown to more than six acres in size.
