'Avenue of Flags' in Fremont

Ottumwa Courier

---- — FREMONT — The community of Fremont will be hosting an “Avenue of Flags” dedication at the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Avenue of Flags is a new experience for the community and is a collaboration between Cedar Township trustees, the Fremont Lions Club, Fremont Development Corporation and Fremont Community Foundation. It is being funded totally by donations from many area residents.

There will be a row of U.S. flags displayed on each side of the main drive starting at South Miles Street and progressing eastward toward the central flag pole. The central flag pole will have six military flags in an arc at its foot. The plans are to have these six military flags, as well as the large U.S. flag, flying constantly. The Avenue of Flags will only be flown on select holiday periods. Everyone is invited to this dedication.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Fremont Community Center at 107 E. Main St.
