OTTUMWA — Who says there are no jobs available? U.S. Cellular says they're looking to fill 60 job openings.
Though most are not in the immediate area, all 60 are in Iowa.
“We are proud to host this hiring event in Iowa, a strong market where we have seen high demand for our wireless services,” said Don Cochran, U.S. Cellular’s director of sales for Iowa and Nebraska.
At a time when some businesses are still downsizing, a representative told the Courier, U.S. Cellular is adding employees.
"Across the state, we have added 15 retail wireless consultants and seven leadership positions," said Kevin Schuster, a spokesman for the company.
The other openings come from natural turnover in retail locations, he said.
The company will host hiring events from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. One will be held at the U.S. Cellular retail store in Ottumwa.
Jobs include sales positions, technical work and an entry-level position called "greeter." But there are also a number of supervisory positions open. The nearest "leadership" position is the store manager job in Knoxville.
"For our sales manager and store manager positions, we require a high school diploma or state equivalency certification. We prefer retail experience along with a required two years of sales experience," said Schuster.
Though dollar amounts weren't available, representatives said these positions offer "a competitive starting wage" and benefits along with incentives or commission.
“Our goal is to provide the world’s best wireless experience," Cochran said. "We need qualified, motivated and passionate associates to help us do that.”
