Two of three plead in shooting case

KNOXVILLE — Two of the three defendants involved in this weekend's shooting incident in Pleasantville have pleaded guilty.

Three people were charged following an incident in which two men, Logan Riley Johnson, 24, and Lloyd Brandon Barker, 29, both of Des Moines, followed Kerry Matthew McDaniel, 54, Pleasantville, home from a bar around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

Court documents indicate that the two stayed one-half block behind McDaniel as he went home. Upon reaching his residence, McDaniel went inside, retrieved a .40 caliber gun and loaded it with three rounds. He walked 60 feet toward the other two men and fired two shots into the air. The other two suspects ran away at that time.

When law enforcement arrived, McDaniel submitted to a blood alcohol test. His blood alcohol content was .139.

McDaniel pleaded guilty to reckless use of a firearm and public intoxication this morning from the Marion County Jail. He was ordered to pay $262.50 per count in fines, costs and surcharges.

Johnson, when speaking with police, admitted that they tried to antagonize McDaniel into a fight. He pleaded guilty this morning as well, to a charge of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. His blood alcohol content was .143. Johnson was ordered to pay $525 in fines, costs and surcharges.

Barker's blood alcohol content was .225 nearly an hour after the incident took place, according to court documents. He was previously convicted of public intoxication on July 24, 2009. Barker's charge is enhanced public intoxication.
