LOCKRIDGE — A late-night fatal shooting in Jefferson County will not result in criminal charges.
Just after 11 p.m. on Sept. 4, law center 911 dispatchers received a call about a shooting at 105 W. Main St. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived to find that David Bittner had been shot in the abdomen by a shotgun. Bittner was transported to the Jefferson County Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy determined cause of death to be wounds resulting from a shotgun slug.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Attorney, their office discussed the investigation with investigators and determined "that the shooting was justified, and no criminal charges will be filed against any individual at this time."
The release says the investigation included gathering both evidence and witness statements and that Iowa's Department of Criminal Investigations was among the agencies assisting in the investigation.
