OTTUMWA — Don’t be surprised if you get a wakeup call from Mother Nature tonight.
The National Weather Service says storms are likely tonight in the Ottumwa area, with the highest chances of storms between 1-4 a.m. The pattern is similar to what Iowa has seen since the week started. Violent storms have hit northern Iowa before moving south during the overnight hours.
The 60 percent chance of thunderstorms overnight continues into Thursday and Thursday night. There will be a break Thursday, with storms expected to fire up after 5 p.m. Rainfall amounts will vary depending on whether a thunderstorm goes over a specific area.
Southern Iowa continues to be at risk of severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center places the region in the slight risk category for both Wednesday and Thursday.
