Knoxville — City of Knoxville workers are busy at Young's Park this morning to prepare the former playground site for the Freedom Rock.
The swing set, elephant slide and mouse teeter-totter are being removed. Assistant City Manager Dylan Feik is hopeful that the equipment can be refurbished and placed in another park for future generations of Knoxville children to enjoy. Footings, the fence and other associated aspects of the playground will also be removed.
The City is preparing the area for the Freedom Rock. Artist Bubba Sorensen announced several months ago that he intended to paint a Freedom Rock in every Iowa county. Knoxville was selected for Marion County's Freedom Rock.
The rock was expected to be completed this year.
