CENTERVILLE (AP) —
The state auditor says a former front desk clerk at a southern Iowa resort lodge transferred more than $2,700 for her own use.
The clerk, Kathy Ewing, was fired last October after saying she improperly used the money. She told sheriff’s deputies she thought she could use the money to get caught up on bills.
State Auditor David Vaudt conducted the audit of Honey Creek Resort after a manager was notified by a credit card processor of unusual activity.
The audit uncovered 10 improper fund transactions between August and October of 2011.
Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott says a theft charge has been filed.
The resort, located at Rathbun Lake near Centerville, is operated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources but managed by Minnesota-based Central Group Cos. Inc.
