FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department is notifying everyone in the area about a computer virus scam that has been popping up on an increased amount of computers around the Fairfield area.
According to a press release issued by the FPD, the U.S. Postal Service contacted them about the possible scam involving emails. The Postal Service reported that they have many subjects complaining that they were receiving emails advertising they are from the Postal Service and to open them to receive information about picking up a package.
Postal Service officials, according the news release, confirmed they do not send notifications for package pickup via email and that opening the emails cause computers to be infected by a virus.
The FPD are urging citizens to delete any emails that appear to be from the U.S. Postal Service because they are false and include a virus. Officers also want to thank the Postal Service for providing them with the information about the fraudulent emails.
