Hard rock, metal show to benefit children

OSKALOOSA —

It may sound menacing, but it's for a good cause.

On Saturday, the Varied Industries Building at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds will serve as the venue for Metal Mayhem 2. The concert will feature area hard rock and heavy metal bands, Killing the Dream..., Section Hate, 20 Foot Forehead and Ashes Armada.

Admission to the concert is free to the public and any donations those attending provide will benefit local preschoolers.

Event organizer Joey Wissler, of C.O.T. Promotions, said the bands on Saturday's bill will feature a few different flavors of rock and heavy metal music.

“It's going to be a variation of all different types of Rock n' Roll,” Wissler said.

Wissler went on to note that one of the goals for Saturday's show is to provide a form of entertainment where all ages could enjoy the show.

Killing the Dream... front man Ryan Craver explained that Heavy Metal isn't always about the things some people may perceive it to be.

“Personally, the Heavy Metal that I like has a positive message,” Craver said. “I try to write my music that way too.”

Craver and Wissler explained that the atmosphere at a Heavy Metal concert may not be what some people might think.

“You go to a metal show, not know anybody, two states away and talk to everybody like you've known them forever,” said Craver.

Back in 2011, C.O.T. Promotions put on a concert at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds which featured Fatal Addiction, Killing the Dream..., KillGrid, The Mighty Accelerator and Dead Horse Trauma.

Doors will open for Metal Mayhem 2 at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Varied Industries Building at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds with Ashes Armada opening the show.
