DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Officials in Davenport say nearly a dozen wooden statutes inspired by a famous French painting will continue to be repaired as they take a beating over the years.
The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/16RgE4u ) the latest incident to the Seurat statues at Credit Island Park in Davenport involved a statue head falling off. Another statue received a bullet through the chest.
Kathy Wine, director of River Action Inc., calls the head-falling incident unfortunate, but she is determined to restore the statue.
River Action finances the statues, which are a toast to Georges Seurat's painting, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." They were put in place in 1998, and have received three major facelifts since then.
