Loebsack disagrees with recess

Knoxville — Representatives in the House are expected to return to their districts on Friday, three days after returning to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. This decision does not sit well with Rep. Dave Loebsack.

Loebsack was in Knoxville Monday to tour Weiler and to meet with the Mayor's Youth Council. Prior to his visit to Weiler, Loebsack told the Journal-Express that he disagrees with Speaker John Boehner's decision to send Congress home for the weekend, at a time the US Senate is remaining in session.

Loebsack does not think that everything the House needs to address will get done this week, including several tax extensions. According to Loebsack, the Chair of the committee in charge of getting the extensions through has refused to move them forward without comprehensive tax reform. This is unlikely to get done this week.

As for his trip to Weiler, Loebsack said it was his first visit to the facility since its 100,000 square foot expansion. He planned to receive an update on employment figures, how the space is being used and seeing how the economic conditions are affecting the business.
