Centerville woman rides into cowgirl top 10

Claire McClintock's attempt to be the 2013 ultimate Wrangler cowgirl fell short, but not before landing in the top 10.

"It was exciting," McClintock said. "I wish I could've went further."

McClintock, of Centerville, said she stumbled upon the online contest and decided to enter. She submitted three photos of herself engaged in cowgirl activities and two paragraphs about her goal to be the next ultimate Wrangler cowgirl and her work with horses.

McClintock's essay said she competes in rodeos, attends horse shows and events and is very active in the Appanoose County 4-H horse project. She gives private riding lessons, has been around horses all of her life and makes her own blouses for competition in horse shows.

"I was happy with the top 10," she said. "But I've got other goals for this year so I'll just concentrate on them now."

Entries for the online contest started Friday, March 29 and ended Friday, April 19. The women with the most votes cast between Monday, April 22 and Monday, April 29 made the top 10.

McClintock was the 10th place finisher.

To advance to the next round, the top 10 finishers had to fill out an informational survey. A panel of judges using pre set criteria selected the top five last week and then the winner.

As a top 10 finisher, McClintock will receive clothing valued at $105. The winner's grand prize consists of a three day, two night trip to a location in the United States for a photo shoot and clothing valued at $3,000.

McClintock is no stranger to horses. She is involved in the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Reining Horse Association horse riding circuits, mainly in the reining division. This is her first year, but she has her sights set to qualify for the AQHA world show and novice championships.

McClintock is the owner of Red Carpet Fashion Designs in Centerville.
