KNOXVILLE — 3M Gives presented the Grand Theater Foundation with a $20,000 check Thursday morning, July 10.
The $20,000 is part of the $75,000 raised in six days, as mentioned by Grand Theater Foundation President Dylan Morse when he accepted a $30,000 Marion County Community Foundation grant last week. The theater foundation is now halfway to its $500,000 fundraising goal, with over $250,000 raised.
"Progress is really happening," Morse said. On Wednesday, the metal facade that covered the theater's classic brick was removed. That was the beginning of more changes to come to the exterior, which the public will easily be able to see.
Morse said he is glad to have 3M involved in the project. Some of the business's employees have also volunteered for the project in other ways. One of 3M Knoxville's first employees, Curt Schwanebeck, is active on the board and other aspects of the project.
3M Knoxville Plant Manager Tracinda Yaw said that 3M is glad to support the project. She first met Morse last year and was inspired by his energy and enthusiasm for the theater.
