OSKALOOSA — There will be a new member of the Oskaloosa School Board when the group convenes for its August meeting.
The board met Tuesday night with the evening ending with the appointment of Kraig Van Hulzen as a new board member.
Board member Charlie Comfort had tendered his resignation effective this Thursday at the June meeting. Van Hulzen, who has two children in the district, submitted his name for consideration and will represent the Southwest portion of Oskaloosa as Director 4. Van Hulzen was a candidate for an at-large position in September’s election and was on the slate with current board president Carl Drost in the last election.
Van Hulzen told board members he wanted to give back to the community.
“I am a life-long resident of Oskaloosa,” said Van Hulzen. “My father was on the board with Carl. I teach at North Mahaska so I have the education side understanding. Kamron is a senior and Kourtney is a freshman and I thought it would be a good time.”
Van Hulzen was sworn after a unanimous vote. His first meeting will officially be in August.
