---- — EDDYVILLE — The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont School Board received initial proposals from both employee unions this week.
The E-B-F Education Association asked for a salary schedule with a base of $35,000 as well as the option for additional discussion should the district receive a grant for teacher leader compensation.
The Laborers’ International Union of North America, Laborers’ Local #353 proposed several contract changes featuring a 6 percent increase in wages.
Some of the additional proposed changes for Local #353 include: an increase in shift differential pay from 30 cents to 75 cents per hour, an increase to two hours minimum compensation for show-up time on inclement weather days, updates to provide certain benefits to “regularly scheduled employees” as opposed to just “full-time employees” and changes to the definition of “immediate family.”
The board did not act on these proposals. However, they did go into closed session for a scope of negotiations strategy session.
In another matter, Superintendent Dr. Dean Cook told board members that he is in the process of seeking quotes for an addition to the bus garage in Eddyville and the addition of a kitchen at the Blakesburg Elementary School. He hopes to bring those figures to the board at an upcoming board meeting.
In other business, the board approved Principal Chris Fenster as the District Level 1 Investigator; Principal Matt Johnson will serve as alternate.
Also, Cook told board members that administrators along with additional staff will attend an active shooter training at Ottumwa High School later this month; this will precede a similar training at E-B-F under the direction of Wapello and Mahaska County Law Enforcement officers.
