Suspicious male leads to lockdown in Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Howar Junior High and Lakeview Elementary Schools have been placed on lockdown after the Centerville Law Center received a report of a suspicious male dressed in black carrying an unknown type of long gun on the Lelah Bradley trail behind Lakeview School Friday morning.

The report came into the law center at approximately 9:40 a.m. this morning.

The police department notified the Centerville Community School District of the issue due to the proximity of the trail to the school, according to a press release from the police department. School officials then decided to lockdown both of the schools for student and staff safety.

Officers began searching the area for the suspect, however after an extensive search of the area no one matching description was found. The press release from the police department states police believe the suspect may have been attempting to illegally hunt within the park.

The press release continues to say that the Lakeview and Howar Junior High schools will remain on high alert with all exterior doors locked for the remainder of the school day. There has also been extra police presence delegated to the area.
