---- — OSKALOOSA — The public got a sneak peek at the Oskaloosa Art Center & Studios Friday evening.

The art center is located at 1701 Third Ave. E., Suite 3. The Fine Arts and Cultural Events of Mahaska County organization leased the site at Heartland Mall.

“It’s a preview, like a sneak peek,” FACE President Briana Bartlett said of the reception at the center Friday evening. “Plans are to open in May.”

The art center has seven studios for rent.

“We’re looking for creative people who are interested in renting,” Bartlett said.

FACE is looking for a variety of artists who create their works from different mediums — painting, drawing, even scrapbooking, she said.

The art center has been in the back of the minds of some FACE members ever since the organization formed, Bartlett said. The organization has been working the past couple of months to get the art center ready for opening, she added.

Besides the studios, the art center will feature office space and a large gallery/show area.

FACE members plan to hold art shows and invite guest curators and hold theme-related shows, Bartlett said.

During the open-house reception, as people perused the art on display, they could sign-up to volunteer for FACE, Bartlett said.

If people want to learn more about FACE and the art center, they can check out the FACE website at or go to Facebook.
