---- — OSKALOOSA — If you need a good laugh this weekend, the William Penn University Fine Arts Department is performing the comedy play “Harvey” this weekend.
The play took the stage at the George Daily Auditorium Thursday night and will also run tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, though free-will donations will be accepted.
“‘Harvey’ is about Elwood P. Dowd and his best friend Harvey. Harvey is a 6 ½ foot tall invisible rabbit,” said Director Andy McGuire said. “He embarrasses his sister at a society party and he gets comitted. The high jinx ensues.”
There is a movie version of the play that starts James Stewart, McGuire said. The movie and the play are very similar.
“‘Harvey’ is one of my favorite shows and favorite movies,” McGuire said.
There are 12 William Penn students in the cast and two more operating the lighting, McGuire said.
“What I love is that everyone has been involved in everything,” McGuire said. From finding props to building and painting sets, all of the students pitched in to help, he added.
“We worked as a team to get things done,” McGuire said.
