Centerville fire has authorities asking questions

---- — CENTERVILLE — Authorities are offering a reward for anyone who can help them find the who set a suspicious fire in Centerville Wednesday night.

The fire was reported just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found a fire near a trash dumpster in the alley behind a business on the west side of the Centerville town square. Flames were already making their way up the back wall of the building.

Officers evacuated the building was evacuated and the Centerville Fire Department was able to contain damage to a small area. The fire did not spread to adjacent buildings.

The cause of the fire is officially undetermined and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could help is asked to call the Centerville Police Department at (641) 437-7100, or call the tip line at (641) 856-3134.

The fire comes almost exactly one year after the Gypsy Quarter was devastated by a blaze at its former location on East State Street. It took three hours for firefighters to bring that conflagration under control. Investigators found a contractor inadvertently started the fire when sparks from grinding equipment ignited nearby material.
