Courier keeps on traveling around the world

Etcetera

Ottumwa Janice Kester spent a month visiting friends in the heart of England. One of the historic sites she saw was the Caldecote Hall Estate where her English friends live. Caldecote Hall was originally 1,200 acres. Owners have included Captain Henry Leigh Townsend, King Henry VII, Edward VI, Colonel William Purefoy and Charles II.

The original door of the manor was destroyed during a battle, was salvaged and refitted to the private church on the estate which is still used. “It is over 600 years old and still very beautiful and well preserved,” Kester said.

The estate is now 35 acres “of beautiful English countryside,” she said. “It is truly the most beautiful peaceful place I have ever been.”

Still waiting for the weird veggies. The contest is officially open, so hopefully there are some gardens that aren’t too water-logged out there.
