ETCETERA: Courier goes cruisin’ for 50th birthdays
BY JUDY KRIEGER, COURIER EDITOR
What a better way to celebrate the dreaded “5-O” than a cruise!
That’s what a group of ladies thought when they planned a recent Caribbean cruise.
According to Terry Sue Loy, one of the “50th,” the women have been friends for many years.
“Five of us graduated together,” she said, adding that some of the group of seven are related, too.
She said the group decided awhile ago that when they all turned 50 they would take a cruise. Some earned the milestone this year and a couple last year, but couldn’t go on the cruise until now.
They all boarded the Carnival Freedom ship during spring break for a cruise.
Six of the women are from Ottumwa; Janet Ripley originally was, but now lives in Coralville.
Terry said they even took more Couriers than pictured, but lost some due to windy conditions when other photos were being taken.
Thanks, gals. We appreciate it

Jo Ann Swaim and Diane Horn of Drakesville took an Ottumwa Courier with them on vacation.
They were visiting Jo Ann’s granddaughter and husband, Jessie and Michael Masteller, in California. Jo Ann and Diane are posing with the Courier on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame.
