Bulldog Book Bowl set for April 23
OTTUMWA — The 12th annual Ottumwa Bulldog Book Bowl, sponsored by the district’s teacher librarians, will be held at 4 p.m. April 23 in the Ottumwa High School cafeteria.
Teams from Ottumwa School District elementary schools will find out who knows the most about nine selected Children’s Choice Award books when they compete.
The bowl is a quiz-type competition for fifth-graders. Schools select teams of up to six fifth-grade students to represent their school. Students read and study the books with a school sponsor. During competition, students use the titles of each book to answer questions. Prizes are awarded, and all participants receive a certificate.
The nine books selected for this year’s competition include: “Runaway Twin” by Peg Kehret, “Zoobreak” by Gordan Korman, “Million-Dollar Throw” by Mike Lupica, “Neil Armstrong is My Uncle & Other Lies Muscle Man McGinity Told Me” by Nan Marino, “I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005” by Lauren Tarchis, “Pictures of Hollis Woods” by Patricia Giff, “Lunch Money” by Andrew Clements, “White Star: A Dog on the Titanic” by Marty Crisp and “Do You Know the Monkey Man?” by Dori Hillestad Butler.
