Knoxville man convicted of failure to register as sex offender

KNOXVILLE — Earl Dean Dawson was convicted of two counts of Failure to Comply with the Sex Offender Registry this morning in Iowa District Court. Judge Terry Rickers ruled at the conclusion of the evidence that the defendant was guilty as charged.

The matter was prosecuted by Marion County Attorney Ed Bull; Dawson was represented by Brandon Shelton of Chariton. The conviction stems from violations of the Sex Offender Registry in early 2012.

Sentencing has been set for the morning of March 29, 2013. Dawson faces up to 4 years in prison as a result of his conviction. The State of Iowa will be requesting Dawson's incarceration.
