OTTUMWA — The Wapello County Engineer says forecasts have him concerned about flooding in low-lying areas of the county.
Brian Moore said predictions from the Army Corps of Engineers estimate a 14.5 foot stage for the Des Moines River. If that does happen Wapello County would feel the effect starting around 7 p.m. Thursday.
Moore said the following roads could be underwater: Walnut, 28th street, Cemetery Road, Rabbit Run Road, 155th Avenue and Rock Bluff Road.
People in those areas should watch the river level carefully, and be prepared to get to safety.
Flash flooding has already begun in some parts of the county with Wednesday's storms, Moore said.
The storms have already officially dumped 1.66 inches of rain on Ottumwa, producing noticeable rises in area creeks and streams.
