January events at Pioneer Ridge

Ottumwa Courier

---- — OTTUMWA — Pioneer Ridge Nature Center will be hosting two events in January to celebrate the winter season.

There will be a Full Moon Night Hike on Jan. 16, 2014. Come out to Pioneer Ridge Nature Area for a trail hike by the light of the moon. You will explore the nocturnal, winter life of Wapello County. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight if you would like. The hike will begin at 8:30 p.m., and we will meet at the nature center.

On Jan. 25, 2014, come to Lessons Learned From the Prairie. Bill Johnson will be at nature center to discuss reconstructing a prairie, producing prairie seed with the help of inmate labor and will end the presentation with a slideshow of blooming prairie plants from spring to fall. Through his 25-year career with the IDNR, Bill has planted hundreds of acres of prairie, produced seed for thousands of acres of prairie and has learned much along the way. Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. A minimum number of pre-registrants must be met for this presentation to take place.
