Cargill Ghoul Gallup brings out the characters

EDDYVILLE — The Cargill Ghoul Gallup 5K Run/Walk started out being a frightening event as participants began to gather at the Eddyville Park in Halloween costumes for themselves, their children and even their dogs. The run was held on Saturday morning, both starting and finishing at the Eddyville Central Park.

This was the second annual Cargill Eddyville Run. Half of the proceeds will go to support the Eddyville Park and the other half to the United Way in the surrounding communities.

Jon Kasworm, coordinator for the run, announced there were approximately 100 runners/walkers. The participants were greeted by members of the Eddyville C C Club offering everything from coffee and hot chocolate to tea and Gatorade. The Club had also made many homemade treats for everyone who came to participate or just be a part of the cheering crowd.

The top runners from the men's and women's categories were:

First: Nate Rausch, 19:11; Second: Payton Walker, 19:22; Third: Luke Sutton, 23:45. First: Jen Olsen, 22:35; Second, Jill Simmons, 24:55; Third: Jan Humerdasse, 25:48.

Winners of the costume contest were: Johnston and Keisha Lobberecht — Gorilla Brings Her Banana; Billie Jo Hudnut — Miss Piggy; Mike Kasworm — Jake the Big Yellow Dog; and everyone loved Cassidy Long and Jaylenne Vroegh — Our Two Little Angels.

The event was sponsored by Cargill Eddyville and hosted by the city of Eddyville. The Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department and Eddyville C C Club also helped.
