EDDYVILLE — This week, the Eddyville City Council and Cargill official Jon Kasworm reviewed the details of an upcoming 5K.
Kasworm told the council that the Ghoul Gallup 5K will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 26 on the streets of Eddyville. The event will feature a costume contest with prizes awarded.
Cargill plans to cover all costs for the event such as shirts and food. All proceeds from registration fees will be divided equally between city park renovations and the United Way.
“Forty-five have signed up so far. I think we are on target for at least 100 participants,” Kasworm said.

City park renovations are well under way and still continuing. Councilman Doug Greenlee told the council that the city has recently applied for several more grants, including Iowa Tourism, Paint Iowa, Build with Bags (converting recycled bags into picnic tables), Keep Iowa Beautiful and MidAmerican Trees Please.
The city has also received additional donations by local residents for improvements to the city park.
Councilman Dwight Lobberecht voiced concerns about the log cabin in the park, saying, “We need to salvage that thing and get her done. I’m going to push to help save that.”
