---- — OTTUMWA — Wapello County's bridges will get some help before the year is over.
During this week's meeting, the Wapello County Board of Supervisors approved participating in the Iowa Department of Transportation's Federal Aid Agreement for the county's bridges.
After the meeting, Supervisor Steve Siegel said some of those bridges include Agency-Hedrick Road, which goes over Cedar Creek. The Monroe-Wapello Road goes over Avery Creek.
"Those will be let this fall and rebuilt next year," he said. "Tonight's action pertained to accepting the federal bridge money."
The supervisors have also written a letter of support and commitment to city leaders concerning matching funds for the city of Ottumwa's efforts to secure a Tiger Grant for repair of Iowa Avenue. The grant will include adding a turning lane to the county's end of the project.
"The letter of support will include $124,993 in matching funds to the city if Wapello County gets the Tiger Grant," Siegel said.
The supervisors also approved a resolution to amend the Articles of Agreement of the Area 15 Regional Planning Commission.
Supervisor Greg Kenning said he'd rather see the group be like the original planning commission rather than bring in all of the supervisors from other counties in southeast Iowa.
"There's about 35 of them," he said. "The boards never met. Last time they tried to do a peer review, but the quorum was too large."
