---- — AGENCY — Agency has a new city sign for a display of Chief Wapello.
It's Chief Wapello himself at the west side of Agency, and traffic coming from the four-lane highway can easily see the display when they leave the four-lane. The street turns into North College Street after drivers leave the four-lane highway.
Cindy VanAntWerp is the Agency city clerk, and she confessed Monday that she had started asking about putting something at the west ramp of the highway.
"I thought it would be eye-catching at that entrance, which becomes College Street as drivers leave the highway," she said. "We've been thinking Agency needs a new city sign."
VanAntWerp said she talked to Steve Huffman, who owns and operates Dream Scapes. She told him the city was hesitant about spending the money, so she decided to put the project in the city's newsletter and ask citizens to look at the various designs.
"Some were against a sign to greet visitors, but I like it and think it's beautiful," she said. "I think it will heighten the awareness of Chief Wapello Park, and the City Council wanted to do something."
VanAntWerp also said she had been in a lot of cities and small communities that had more than a small green street sign announcing the entrance to a city.
Huffman said Monday that his Metal Scapes made the Indian for the concrete rock formation.
"The traffic leaving the highway will bave good visibiity of the display, which offers good visibiility and the local heritage in the background," Huffman said. "It's good for Agency."
