Having money in hand can be tough, especially if you can’t spend it for a while.
During the Wapello County Supervisors meeting Tuesday, the board discussed the Chillicothe Bridge and paving Rock Bluff Road.
This year the county plans to pave Chillicothe Road to the new bridge on that road. Then it will be paved all the way to the town.
“All we’re doing is the Chillicothe Road from the four-lane highway to Chillicothe,” said Supervisor Steve Siegel. “Much of that is gravel since we did the bridges the past couple of years. But, we will pave all of that.”
Another project is Competine Road, which runs from the Eldon “Y” intersection to Bladensburg.
Siegel said Competine Road will get about four miles of paving. Other work will include the Bluegrass Road from the city limits to 194th Avenue.
Wapello County crews will also work on the Eldon-Floris Road by paving the part in Wapello County. That project amounts to about 3.5 miles of new pavement on the Wapello County side.
Supervisor Jerry Parker said the letting will be sometime in July and Siegel added the supervisors already have the money. But, Wapello County Engineer Brian Moore said the plans weren’t ready just yet.
Siegel said some of the funding will be used for three jobs. First will be working on Bluegrass Road from the Ottumwa limits to 194th Street and the work will be done this summer. Second will be the Eldon-Floris Road and the work will cover the road from the bridge to the Davis County line. The third project will be fixing Competine Road from U.S. Highway 34 to Bladensburg.
