Dolores Sayre of Downing, Mo., shops in Ottumwa once a month or so, but Tuesday was the first time she thought about New Year’s resolutions while shopping.
“I guess the main thing for me has been slowing down and appreciating what’s in front of you,” she said Tuesday while resting in the food court area at Quincy Place Mall. “You shouldn’t always strive for that next illusive thing that you think will make the world go around for you.”
Before you know it, another memory goes by, Sayre added.
Sayre and her family farm south of the Missouri state line and believe the area has something different to offer than Ottumwa does.
“But we get here once in a while to see what’s here,” she added.
Her shopping buddies included her daughter and her grandchildren.
Sayre’s daughter, Jennifer Laws of Glenwood, Mo., is also ready for less stress in her life. Even her young granddaughter, Samantha Ault of Marceline, Mo., is ready for less stress.
To reduce stress, Ault works with horses.
Sayre said another granddaughter, Ashlyn Laws, enjoys gymnastics but is worried about the increased difficulty of the exercises.
All agreed less stress is a priority in 2013.
