---- — OTTUMWA — The Wapello County Board of Supervisors are getting ready to use some of the funds in the new budget that begins July 1.

The supervisors will discuss the new budget and several other items when the board convenes next week.

Wapello County Supervisor Greg Kenning said Friday that a transformation grant is in the new budget and contains funding for projects for the county public health department headed by Lynelle Diers.

"Diers will be spending the funds on a lot of things needed for her department," Kenning said.

The supervisors will also consider appointments to the Wapello County Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Wapello County Planning & Zoning Commission. Kenning noted there are vacancies on the Board of Adjustment, and the supervisors will discuss filling those.

"If we have some people in mind, we can vote to put them on those boards," he said.

The supervisors will also discuss the new mental health region, which has been mandated by state authorities. For Wapello County, the new region includes Wapello, Davis and Appanoose counties.

Kenning also said the region will have a governance board that will consist of a supervisor, a patient advocate and the Central Point Coordinators from the selected counties.

"The new region is new territory for the county supervisors," Kenning said. "We have to decide what things, what mental health provisions, each of the counties will kick in on."

He also noted the current board will be the one to make all of the decisions. The region is a brand-new project, and current leadership will decide what will work and what priorities will be established.

"It's quite a bit of power, and it's brand-new territory," Kenning added.

The board will convene at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the third-floor boardroom at the courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
