Cargill hosting fair for job seekers

OTTUMWA — The Bridge View Center is the place to be for area job seekers Wednesday, where they will get a chance to meet and greet with a potential employer.

Iowa Workforce Development and Cargill are partnering to host a job fair from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will be accepting applications as well as conducting interviews and online testing to those who they feel are a good fit, according to reliability superintendent Larry Basar.

Most of their focus will be on maintenance positions, but applications will also be accepted for other various positions that have openings, including in the areas of production and operations.

Cargill’s human resources department will be accepting applications, and interviewing will be done for those who qualify for the maintenance positions. After the interviews, applicants who they feel are a good fit will go through an online test to evaluate their knowledge assessment.

If Cargill’s officials find applicants who meet their needs, positions could be offered on-site, according to Basar.

“We could pencil-in people for maintenance positions right there,” Basar said.

The job fair is a chance for Cargill to meet with area job seekers and is a way for them to get through most of the application process without having to make several appointments.

“It gives us a chance to get as much knocked out as we can so we don’t have to set up multiple trips,” Basar said.

At their most recent job fair, Cargill was able to offer nine jobs on-site, and 75 applications were taken for production and operations openings, Basar said.

For more information about the job fair, call the Bridge View Center at 641-684-7000.
