OTTUMWA — The new communications tower project in Wapello County is still in a holding pattern due to rainy weather.
Josh Stevens, the Wapello County emergency management coordinator, said Wednesday that the project is still on hold because of rain and the soft ground it leaves behind.
"The rain last week put us in a holding pattern ... ," he said. "So, it's a slowing process for the project."
After the crane arrives, Stevens said the project will still have to wait for dry ground.
"Once we get some dry ground, the work will go well," he said. "But it's been raining a couple of days here and a couple of days there. It's like getting ready to mow and the rain comes."
When the weather clears up, then the crew can move heavy equipment to the site in the Ottumwa Street area, Stevens added.
