Ottumwa Courier

---- — OTTUMWA — A special recruitment day for students interested in continuing their athletic careers at Indian Hills Community College and their parents is planned for Saturday, Feb. 8. “Explore Indian Hills” will feature a full afternoon of activities beginning with check-in and registration at noon in the Rural Health Education Center on the college’s Ottumwa Campus.

“We want to give prospective students interested in participating in Indian Hills athletics an opportunity to learn about our various sports, academic programs, potential scholarships and walk-on options,” said Chris Bowser, Dean of Student Services. “We’ll also explain the seamless transfer of our arts and sciences graduates to four-year schools and we’ll have special information that will be presented to parents.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet most of the Indian Hills coaches and will hear from several IHCC alumni who were student-athletes at the two-year school.

Students Services will also be a focus of the afternoon with information shared on the registration process, student advising, study tables, housing and the advantages of the four-day academic week since Indian Hills classes are held Monday through Thursday.

Indian Hills competes in nine sports at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I level, including men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, women’s softball, men’s golf, men’s baseball and men’s basketball. The college also sports a coed cheerleading squad for men’s basketball.

A student panel of current Indian Hills athletes will answer questions as will a group of college administrators.

Those in attendance will able to go on campus tours at 4 p.m. and eat dinner in the Hills Diner at 5 p.m. Tickets will also be provided to attend the basketball game against Southeastern at 7 p.m.
