OTTUMWA — The newly-remodeled Academic SUCCESS Center on the Indian Hills Community College Ottumwa campus has been formally dedicated to John Pothoven, president of the IHCC Board of Trustees. Pothoven made a generous gift to the college’s Foundation and the decision was made to attach his name to the SUCCESS Center to honor him.
“The SUCCESS Center will provide an avenue for students to receive help based on individual needs surrounding core competencies,” said Pothoven. “This resource will continue to make Indian Hills a better place to learn, work and thrive for our students.”
Located near the formal lounge and library, the SUCCESS Center offers a variety of free support services to students.
Pothoven represents the Oskaloosa area on the Board of Trustees and has been board president for the past four years.
“It has been a privilege to serve on the Indian Hills board and I have the utmost respect for Dr. (Jim) Lindenmayer and Dr. (Marlene) Sprouse,” Pothoven said of the IHCC president and vice president, respectively. “Indian Hills plays a vital role in the economic growth of the 10-county area we serve. I have always had a passion for education and I feel this contribution will make a lasting difference in the lives of our students.”
The plaque at the entrance to the SUCCESS Center notes that “John’s contributions to Indian Hills and its students have been exceptional and exemplary. He consistently exhibits care and concern for the well-being of students, faculty and staff. John’s leadership in his home community of Oskaloosa and on the Indian Hills Board of Trustees has bettered the lives of thousands of people throughout his years of service.”
