Acoustic duo performs Sunday at Indian Hills

OTTUMWA — Award-winning singer/songwriter Wil Maring and virtuoso guitarist and fiddler Robert Bowlin will combine their skills to present an acoustic concert of folk, country and bluegrass styles at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, on the Marge Dodd Stage at Indian Hills Community College. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Marge Dodd Stage is an outdoor facility located between the Hellyer Student Life Center and the Advanced Technology Center on IHCC’s Ottumwa campus. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the performance. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in St. John Auditorium.

Maring and Bowlin have performed their original acoustic music which straddles the fence between bluegrass, folk, country and even jazz on the stage of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. Maring’s airy vocal style and heartfelt lyrics have raised the eyebrows of the acoustic music world in recent years with her release of three solo CDs and four band CDs. She has toured Japan and Europe, was a first place winner of the songwriting contest at Merlefest and a Kerrville New Folk finalist.

Bowlin is a two-time winner of the National Fingerpicking and Flatpicking Guitar Contest and has been a band member with many artists including Bill Monroe, Maura O’Connell, Kathy Mattea, the Osborne Brothers, Tom T. Hall and Ray Price. He is now making a name for himself as an artist in his own right with his first solo release.
