Philipsen to present faculty voice recital
OTTUMWA — Michael Philipsen, vocal music and piano instructor at Indian Hills Community College, will perform a faculty voice recital in St. John Auditorium at 3 p.m. Oct. 18. The recital is free and open to the public.
Philipsen, a baritone, will sing selections in English and a number of languages with translations provided. Philipsen will feature works by Schubert, Fauré, Handel, and Vaughan Williams.
Philipsen has been a member of the music faculty at Indian Hills since 1985, and has been the director of the college’s Performing and Visual Arts Department since 1999.
In addition to teaching piano, voice, music theory and other classes, he also directs the IHCC Concert Choir and the Camerata Singers. He earned a bachelor of music degree at Simpson College and a master of music at the University of Missouri. He has studied voice with Greg Isaacs, Anne Ogan Larson, Pearl Wormhoudt and Carol Stuart Iverson.
